Licence to Operate a Bridge and Gantry Crane (Class CB) TLILIC0016

This nationally recognised course provides participants with the knowledge and practical skills required to safely operate a bridge and gantry crane. These cranes are commonly used in workshops, warehouses, factories, and industrial sites to move large and heavy loads. The course covers planning, preparation, load handling, signalling, and shutdown procedures in compliance with workplace health and safety standards. Successful assessment supports a separate application to the regulator for the relevant high risk work licence.

Learning Objectives

By completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand WHS legislative requirements and operator responsibilities.
  • Conduct pre-operational checks and equipment inspections.
  • Plan and prepare lifting operations using a bridge or gantry crane.
  • Safely operate cranes to lift, transfer, and position loads.
  • Work effectively with doggers, riggers, and signalers.
  • Identify hazards and implement risk control measures.
  • Shut down and secure crane equipment after operations.

Course Content

  • WHS regulations, codes of practice, and site requirements.
  • Pre-operational inspections and routine servicing.
  • Crane operating techniques for different load types.
  • Safe use of lifting gear and attachments.
  • Load estimation, lifting principles, and stability.
  • Communication methods (hand signals, radios, etc.).
  • Emergency procedures and fault reporting.
  • Post-operational checks and housekeeping.

Assessment

Assessment will include:

  • Written and/or oral theory knowledge test.
  • Practical demonstration of bridge and gantry crane operations.
  • Observation of compliance with WHS requirements and industry standards.

Certification

Participants who meet the assessment and enrolment requirements will receive a Statement of Attainment from Halo Nation Training Pty Ltd (RTO 32485) for Licence to Operate a Bridge and Gantry Crane (Class CB) TLILIC0016.

A Statement of Attainment is not a high risk work licence. Licensing requires a separate application to WorkSafe and satisfaction of the regulator’s requirements. Attendance or payment does not guarantee a competent result or a licence.

Course Duration

Scheduled duration: 5 Days. The booking confirmation will set out the delivery schedule and any pre-course preparation. Additional training or assessment may be required according to participant needs and the applicable training and assessment requirements; any additional time or fees will be discussed before agreement.

Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Basic English literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Valid photo identification for licensing purposes.
  • Current White Card (CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry) may be required.
  • Participants must supply and wear appropriate PPE (safety boots, high-visibility clothing, hard hat, gloves, eye protection).

Prices shown are per participant for Perth company group bookings. Minimum group charges apply even if fewer people attend. If a trainer flies to site, the maximum class size is charged. Your written quote will confirm the total, applicable GST, administration, travel and any requested VOC or additional assessment costs. Full payment is due at least five business days before training, or on confirmation for shorter-notice bookings.

For high risk work licence courses, successful assessment does not itself issue a licence. Participants must meet WorkSafe WA’s requirements and lodge their application within the required period, generally within 60 days of the Notice of Assessment. Optional ASTS application assistance is $120 plus GST per participant, including a passport photograph. Your quote will confirm what this service includes and any separate regulator application fee.
