Licence to Perform Rigging Basic Level (Basic Rigging Course) CPCCLRG3001

This nationally recognised course provides participants with the skills and knowledge required to perform basic rigging work safely and effectively. The course covers the planning, preparation, and execution of rigging tasks associated with moving, positioning, and securing loads, as well as the installation of hoists, safety nets, and static lines. Successful completion of this unit allows participants to apply for a High Risk Work Licence (Class RB) with their state or territory regulator.

Learning Objectives

By completing this course, participants will learn how to:

  • Understand legislative and WHS requirements for rigging.
  • Identify hazards, assess risks, and implement control measures.
  • Inspect and maintain rigging equipment.
  • Perform rigging tasks including steel erection, hoist erection, and placement of precast concrete.
  • Safely install and dismantle safety nets, static lines, and associated equipment.
  • Apply communication and signalling techniques when working with a team.
  • Carry out shutdown and equipment storage procedures.

Course Content

  • WHS legislation, responsibilities, and risk management.
  • Rigging principles and safe lifting practices.
  • Selection, inspection, and use of rigging equipment.
  • Basic load movement techniques and calculations.
  • Erection of hoists (mast climbers, gin poles, etc.).
  • Placement of precast concrete members.
  • Installation of safety nets and static lines.
  • Emergency procedures and fault reporting.

Assessment

Assessment involves:

  • Written/oral knowledge testing.
  • Practical demonstration of rigging skills.
  • Observation of compliance with WHS and site procedures.

Certification

Upon successful completion, participants will receive a:

  • Statement of Attainment for CPCCLRG3001 – Licence to Perform Rigging Basic Level.
  • Eligibility to apply for a High Risk Work Licence (Class RB) issued by the relevant WHS authority.

Course Duration

  • Typically 3–5 days, depending on prior knowledge and experience.
  • Includes both classroom-based theory and hands-on practical training.

Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 18 years of age.
  • Current High Risk Work Licence for Dogging (DG class) is required.
  • Basic English literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Participants must bring valid photo identification.
  • Appropriate PPE must be worn (safety boots, high-visibility clothing, hard hat, gloves, eye protection).

Note : After completing any High-Risk Work Licence course, the worker is then required to submit their Notice of Assessment to WorkSafe with a passport photo and their High-Risk Work Application form including their Statement of Attainment within 60 days. If you require Australian Safety and Training Solutions to do this on your behalf, then the cost will be $120 plus GST which will include their passport photo per person.
