Provide First Aid

This nationally recognised course provides the skills and knowledge required to respond to a range of first aid emergencies in the workplace and community.

Delivered in a single day, this course includes the nationally recognised units:

• HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation (CPR)
• HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
• HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

Participants will learn how to assess emergency situations, provide first aid treatment, perform CPR, use an automated external defibrillator (AED), and manage a range of common injuries and medical emergencies until further assistance arrives.

Course Outcomes

During this course, participants will learn how to:

• Recognise and respond to emergency situations
• Apply the DRSABCD action plan
• Perform CPR on adults, children and infants
• Use an automated external defibrillator (AED)
• Manage unconscious casualties
• Respond to asthma and anaphylaxis emergencies
• Provide first aid for choking, bleeding and shock
• Manage fractures, sprains, strains and other common injuries
• Respond to bites, stings and envenomation incidents
• Communicate effectively with emergency services
• Complete incident reporting requirements
• Review and evaluate the first aid response provided

Who Should Attend?

This course is suitable for workplace first aiders, employees required to hold a current first aid qualification, community volunteers, sporting club personnel and members of the public seeking comprehensive first aid training.

Assessment Requirements

Participants will complete both practical and knowledge-based assessment activities. Practical assessment includes demonstrating CPR skills, using an AED and responding to simulated first aid scenarios in accordance with current Australian Resuscitation Council guidelines.

Certification

Successful participants will be issued with Statements of Attainment for:

• HLTAID009 – Provide Cardiopulmonary Resuscitation
• HLTAID010 – Provide Basic Emergency Life Support
• HLTAID011 – Provide First Aid

Industry Recommendations

The Australian Resuscitation Council recommends that CPR skills be refreshed every 12 months. First aid qualifications are generally recommended to be renewed every 3 years to maintain currency of skills and knowledge.

Note : After completing any High-Risk Work Licence course, the worker is then required to submit their Notice of Assessment to WorkSafe with a passport photo and their High-Risk Work Application form including their Statement of Attainment within 60 days. If you require Australian Safety and Training Solutions to do this on your behalf, then the cost will be $120 plus GST which will include their passport photo per person.
