Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry (White Card Course) CPCWHS1001

This nationally recognised course, commonly known as the White Card course, is mandatory for anyone working in the Australian construction industry. It equips participants with the essential knowledge of workplace health and safety (WHS) requirements, risk management practices, and safe work procedures. Successful completion allows participants to apply for a White Card, which is a legal requirement to access and work on construction sites.

Learning Objectives

By completing this course, participants will be able to:

  • Understand workplace health and safety legislative requirements.
  • Identify common construction hazards and implement risk control measures.
  • Recognise and follow safe work practices.
  • Understand roles, responsibilities, and communication processes on-site.
  • Correctly use personal protective equipment (PPE).
  • Respond appropriately to workplace incidents and emergencies.

Course Content

  • Introduction to WHS legislation and responsibilities.
  • Hazard identification and risk management.
  • Construction site safety signage and communication.
  • Safe work practices, policies, and procedures.
  • Use of PPE and safe manual handling.
  • Emergency response and incident reporting.

Assessment

Assessment includes:

  • Written and/or oral knowledge assessment.
  • Practical participation in class activities and demonstrations.
  • Verification of understanding of WHS requirements.

Certification

On successful completion, participants will receive a:

  • Statement of Attainment for CPCWHS1001 – Prepare to Work Safely in the Construction Industry.
  • This allows participants to apply for a White Card issued by their state or territory regulator.

Course Duration

  • Typically delivered in one day (approximately 6–8 hours).
  • Includes theory, group activities, and assessment.

Prerequisites

  • Must be at least 14 years of age (check state/territory requirements).
  • Basic English literacy and numeracy skills.
  • Participants must bring valid photo identification.
  • Appropriate PPE (e.g., enclosed footwear) may be required.

Note : After completing any High-Risk Work Licence course, the worker is then required to submit their Notice of Assessment to WorkSafe with a passport photo and their High-Risk Work Application form including their Statement of Attainment within 60 days. If you require Australian Safety and Training Solutions to do this on your behalf, then the cost will be $120 plus GST which will include their passport photo per person.
